Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst confirmed yesterday he informed the other players on Monday that he had left Morelos, the club’s all-time top goalscorer in European competition, out of the squad travelling to the Netherlands.The Athletic
“As a person, it was a hard decision. As a manager, it was an easy one because we are here to represent our club and to get into the Champions League tomorrow evening. In my eyes, this was the best squad to take.” He then had to quarantine after returning home for a holiday, so couldn’t train with the team. The club floated the idea of arranging a holiday in Europe instead to circumvent the need to isolate for so long, but he wanted to see family, given he was in South America already and lives a long way away.
The carrot tends to work better than the stick with Morelos but getting through to him once and for all is a challenge.
