Turner said the company’s model focuses on preventive care costs up front to prevent higher costs later on for untreated issues that could result in expensive emergency hospital stays. “If you put off going to the doctor, you could have cancer and not know it,” she said, referring to patients unknowingly missing treatment windows for cancer’s earliest stages. “It’s also heartbreaking how many people realize they have health problems but don’t have money to see a doctor … so they let things get bad until they end up going to the ER.”The local survey found 28 percent of respondents had deductibles of $3,000 or more and that 39 percent had some form of medical debt.
