More than 60,000 LAUSD kids show up during vacation – to reverse learning loss
It’s not everyday that students trade school break for school work, but on Dec. 19 and 20, thousands of LAUSD students did just that by attending two optional “acceleration days” to help make up for pandemic learning losses.
Outreach for acceleration day enrollment was targeted at students who fell the most behind, Carvalho said in a Thursday, Dec. 20 interview, but the acceleration days were open to all students who wanted to attend. A big draw for many students like Santos was the chance to boost their grades through assignments completed on acceleration days.
Caudra said the school and district did a good job at encouraging students to attend acceleration days, but added that there are always students who need the academic support who don’t show up for opportunities like these.
