Local residents set up the questionnaire as they felt a council survey on the proposed active travel project didn’t provide enough detail
More than 1,000 people have completed a community survey about proposed changes to the road layout in Castle Douglas.As well as plans to add cycle lanes and pedestrian crossings to the roundabout at the top of King Street, it emerged at a drop-in session involving consultants Stantec that the possibility of adding a cycle lane and one-way system to King Street was also being looked at.
“The vast majority of respondents do not want a one-way system, any loss of parking, dedicated cycle crossings, any additional cycle lane facilities on the roundabout, other than what is currently there. And locals feel they have found an alternative to putting a cycleway down King Street by going through Burghfield and along the old railway line.
“In this current economic climate, the community strongly feel that it is completely unacceptable for any restrictions to accessing these businesses by vehicle to be considered.”
