Leading doctors have warned the coming weeks could see an increase in the number of Covid-19 deaths.
Cases appear to be easing off now, especially in the young, but prevalence is still very high in older age groups, prompting fears about more loss of life to come. The UK Health Security Agency said there were already more than 600 confirmed cases domestically as of March 22 and that it appeared to have a growth rate almost 10% higher than BA.2.
The UK has high vaccinations rates and restrictions have been scaled back to varying degrees across the country – but experts fear we’re not out the woods yet. This week saw the end of the government’s universal free provision of lateral flow tests, a move which will inevitably lead to a decrease in testing.
