Morbius review: Jared Leto's Spider-Man spin-off is a bland and confused throwback
Nope. Unfortunately, even though there are flashes of promise,Sony Picturesfrom the extended marketing campaign, but if not, here goes. After a trip to Costa Rica, Dr Michael Morbius returns with several bats which could hold the key to the cure for his rare blood disorder.
Determined to help both himself and his lifelong friend Milo who suffers from the same disorder, Morbius attempts a dangerous gamble by mixing human DNA with a bat's and using himself as the guinea pig. At first it seems like a success, but a darkness is soon unleashed inside of him. And when Milo gets word of the miraculous cure, Morbius will soon have to decide if their survival is worth the deadly cost of the cure – or will Morbius succumb to his darkest urges?that could be spoiled. It's very much your average origin tale with all the elements you'd expect, such as a power-testing montage and a villain who's the mirror image of the 'hero'. As a result, if you were told this was released in the mid-'90s, you wouldn't be surprised.
There's one more sequence that could be called horror-tinged when a nurse meets a brutal end, but otherwise,is blunted. We're constantly told that the vampire doc is struggling with his urges and is facing a race against time , yet you never really feel like it's that much of an issue for him to not kill anybody.
Proceedings are livened up by a wonderfully OTT turn by Matt Smith as the so-called villain of the piece. It's a performance that belongs in a better movie and Smith even injects some pathos into the well-worn 'feuding brothers-in-arms' storyline. As a counter-balance to Leto's mumbly and morose turn, Smith keeps
