Summit topics covered a wide range of issues including debunking homelessness myths, youth and chronic homelessness, encampment and parking solutions, and what state and federal resources are available to local jurisdictions. The 2022 Homeless Point-in-Time Count and Survey was also presented at the summit. The Point-in-Time Count is conducted every two years and includes a comprehensive count and survey of local homeless populations to measure the prevalence of homelessness in communities.
“In 2021, the housing coalition released a housing market analysis on behalf of the Continuum of Care,” explained Wilson. “In that document, we revealed that for every 100 extremely low-income households in Monterey County, we only have 16 units to serve them.” “If you own property, we need you to accept vouchers,” Wilson said. “There are so many vouchers that go unused and vouchers are literally the only thing that can help people live here if they live below a certain income … offering people a permanent place to call home is the only way to solve homelessness.”
