A Mobile nonprofit that works to combat homelessness has received a $5 million grant from the Bezos Day 1 Families Fund.
The grant to Housing First, Inc., is the largest private gift in the organization’s history, according to information released Tuesday by Housing First. It is also among the largest bestowed by the Bezos Day 1 Families Fund since it was launched by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos in 2018.
“Families are the foundation of our community,” said Derek Boulware, CEO of Housing First, Inc. “We intend to use this generous grant from the Day 1 Families Fund to make a lasting impact on family poverty and homelessness in Mobile and Baldwin Counties.” According to the Bezos Day 1 Families Fund website, the fund has issued 170 leadership awards since 2018, for a total of $521.6 million in grants. The 2022 grants added up to $123.45 million for 40 organizations in 26 states and Puerto Rico.
