ICYMI: MN-S taps former deputy PM to boost Batoche national parliament
MN-S is working with former Liberal cabinet minister Sheila Copps to make Batoche — the site of an 1885 battle that led to Louis Riel’s surrender during the North-West Resistance — the seat of the nation’s Legislative Assembly.
Copps is lobbying federal institutions to support “the development and construction of a Métis Nation Parliament and education centre at Batoche,” according to the “She’s one of our strong supporters in Ottawa. We have quite a few good supporters in Ottawa and that’s why we’ve moved the file,” he said.
He noted this year’s Back to Batoche festival will be the 50th anniversary of the event, after COVID-19 postponed the celebrations for the past two years.
