'They are very brutal... they completely massacre them'
A wild animal described as invasive caused a 'brutal massacre' of a grandmother's hens - bringing to an end Greater Manchester's own 'Cluckingham Palace'. Carol Schofield has looked after former battery hens at her garden in Stubbins, Ramsbottom, for several years.

But I didn't spend as much time as I do out there, and the crafty thing... it's horrible." "They are nasty creatures. I suppose like anybody else they've got a family to feed, but it's very depressing. I've got grandchildren that come, they collect the eggs. [The hens] were very amiable girls, they were very friendly, they would come and play. It's terribly sad.
"I can't let her out because I'm terrified," Carol said. "I think it's kinder for her to find a new home where she can play out.
