The DWP will soon let people know if they can get some extra cash this winter for their heating bills
The Department for Work and Pensions will soon send out a letter to millions letting them know if they're eligible for a cash boost this winter.
The Winter Fuel Payment will give eligible claimants between £250 and £600 over the winter period to help with heating bills. You could receive the cash boost if you were born before September 25, 1957 and live in the UK - however, you may still get the payment if you live abroad in some circumstances.
The payment will be handed out automatically to those who claim benefits, including State Pension, Pension Credit, Attendance Allowance, Personal Independence Payment and more. However, you can still make a claim for the payment even if you don't receive benefits.People will be sent out a letter in October or November in regard to the Winter Fuel Payment. This letter will provide information on whether the recipient is eligible for the cash as well as how much they will receive.
If you don't receive the letter but believe you could still get the Winter Fuel Payment, then you will need to make a claim. Claims by post can be made to the Winter Fuel Payment Centre from September 18, 2023 while claims by phone can be made from October 4.The deadline for making a claim for this year's payment is March 31, 2024. The amount you receive will based on your circumstances between September 18 and 24, 2023 - otherwise known as the 'qualifying week'.
Similarly to last year's payment, the Winter Fuel Payment for 2023/24 will be bundled with the Pensioner Cost of Living payment, worth between £150 and £300. Any money received from the Winter FUel Payment will be tax-free and won't affect any other existing benefits you may be receiving.
