“It’s just a way for me to honor his legacy and hopefully save some lives,” Anna Slive, executive director of the Mike Slive Foundation, said about the prostate cancer awareness organization named after her father and former SEC commissioner.
Mike Slive at an SEC press conferenceThis Thursday at the Protective Life Stadium Club a local foundation will be going “Beyond Blue” as it hosts its fifth annual benefit for prostate cancer research and awareness.
Funds from the event will be put towards research as well as the foundation’s education and outreach programming, which Slive said includes bringing free PSA blood screening to men in underserved communities to test for prostate cancer. For Anna Slive, the foundation and its work are also personal, building on the legacy of her father, who died of prostate cancer in 2018.
“I have three daughters and from the time that they were kind of young it was always around our house to be conscious of possible breast cancer with women in my household,” said Meyerson. “My mother had breast cancer, my wife’s mother’s side of the family had breast cancer, so I said to myself why aren’t men doing the same thing that women finally realized: that being active about your own health is so important.
