As the Ukraine affair gets worse for Trump, House Democrats subpoena Mike Pompeo
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was subpoenaed by House Democrats on Friday afternoon for his reticence on Trump’s conduct with Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelensky. The chairmen of three different committees—House Affairs, Intelligence, and Oversight—wrote to Pompeo with the demand for transparency:
“Pursuant to the House of Representatives’ impeachment inquiry, we are hereby transmitting a subpoena that compels you to produce the documents set forth in the accompanying schedule by October 4, 2019.”In addition to the subpoena, Reps.
The subpoena follows a request made earlier in September asking Pompeo for “six categories of documents” relating to Trump’s conduct in the Ukraine affair, which even then Democrats understood was designed to “improperly pressure the Ukrainian government to assist the President’s bid for reelection.”
One deadline went by, and then another, before the subpoena was issued Friday. Pompeo has yet to comment publicly.
