Updated: The Colorado High School Sports and Activities Association has selected Michael Krueger as its next commissioner. by kylefredrickson copreps
“I’ve worked alongside the smallest schools and the biggest schools. It isn’t always a one-size-fits-all mentality,” Krueger said. “We have differences. We need to know what those are and be respectful of them. We come with different circumstances. But, at the end of the day, we are unified around a shared vision and purpose. That’s hugely important. We’re doing the same thing and serving the same membership. That unity is going to be important.
Krueger previously served as the director of athletics and activities at Palisade High School . He went on to become the district athletic director for Aurora Public Schools until 2018 before transitioning to USA Football. Krueger worked in several capacities for the national youth sports organization — including as the liaison for a medical advisory panel that helped create safety guidelines for football organizations across the country.
“Michael brings an exceptional amount of experience, knowledge and leadership to our Association,” CHSAA Board President Luke DeWolfe said in a news release. “His unique background as a Colorado educator, counselor, coach, rural small-school athletic director and district athletic director in a large, urban school district were key considerations.
“One year I served as the head softball coach, head basketball coach and head baseball coach at Palisade High School — out of necessity,” Krueger said. “It was quite the experience and one that I’m just so grateful for. Then I got into athletic administration in the latter half of my career. I absolutely fell in love. … The platform we have to influence positive change in the lives of our students, I believe in it.
Krueger was selected as CHSAA commissioner over position finalists Bethany Brookens and Christopher Noll.
