Following the U.S.-Mexico deal to curb migration, Mexico said it detained a record 29,000 illegal migrants in June

Santiago PérezMEXICO CITY—Mexican authorities sharply increased detentions of illegal migrants seeking to cross the border into the U.S. in June, hitting a record high just weeks after the government agreed to strengthen migration enforcement to avoid imports tariffs on goods it sends to the U.S.

More than 29,000 migrants were detained by Mexican authorities in June, by far the largest number for any month on record and more than three times as many as in the same month last year, according to preliminary figures provided by Mexico’s migration...
