The Mets have decided to send struggling third baseman Brett Baty to Triple-A Syracuse for further development and learning.
Brett Baty was optioned before the Mets opened a series with the Cubs at Citi Field on Monday, the club deciding the struggling third baseman would be better off learning at Triple-A Syracuse.
“A little timeout. Just a little: Take a breath,” manager Buck Showalter said of Baty, a top prospect who has struggled both with the bat and with the glove in his first prolonged look at the major league level. Robert Sabo for NY PostThe Mets, who sold off at the trade deadline and have shifted gears toward development over wins, concluded Baty’s development would be best served in the minors for now, though Showalter said he hoped Baty would be back up soon.
