Daily News | Mets hire son of Phillies announcer Tom McCarthy for radio job
Pat McCarthy, son of Phillies play-by-play announcer Tom McCarthy, will be the pre- and postgame host for Mets radio broadcasts on WCBS, a source said Tuesday, confirming a New York Post report. Pat, 26, called games on radio for triple-A Lehigh Valley, the Phillies’ affiliate, since 2019.
Mets fans should be familiar with the McCarthy family. Tom McCarthy was the Mets’ radio play-by-play announcer from 2006-07 before returning to Philadelphia. He has been the Phillies’ primary television play-by-player since Harry Kalas died early in the 2009 season. Pat McCarthy filled in for a handful of games over the last two seasons when Tom was calling NFL preseason games.
The Phillies and Mets will play 13 times this season, beginning with a May 30-June 1 series in New York.
