Rookie catcher Francisco Alvarez went 2-for-3, including a seventh-inning double, in the Mets’ 5-0 loss to the Reds on Thursday in Cincinnati.

The Mets managed only six hits in the game.

“One of the benefits of some of the faster games is not as much wear and tear on the catchers,” Showalter said. “He looks at us like we’re crazy when he doesn’t catch.”USA TODAY Sports via Reuters ConShowalter hadn’t reached a final decision after the game whether he will start Tylor Megill or Joey Lucchesi on Friday against the Nationals.
