The University of Strathclyde research also found that sharing such images risked creating "a culture of fear" and "perpetuating negative stereotypes". The mayor and the Met Police said they were still waiting for the outcome of other research due to be published next month. The University of Strathclyde study concluded that as well as potentially encouraging young people to carry weapons, the sharing of knife photos by police "may provoke negative reactions" and perpetuate "preconceived beliefs about who is likely to carry a knife"."How much more evidence do the police need?" Ms Russell said.
