The Asian Restaurant Awards took place earlier this week
Taking place earlier this week at the Hilton Manchester Piccadilly, the awards acknowledge all Asian cuisines across the nation. This includes Bangladeshi, Burmese, Chinese, Filipino, Indian, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Malaysian, Middle Eastern, Pakistani, Singaporean, Sri Lankan, Thai, Turkish and Vietnamese.
BBC news anchor Samantha Simonds hosted the event in front of an audience of more than 500 which included Asian restaurant owners, chefs and local dignitaries. Categories included Best Thai, Best Sri Lankan, Innovative Restaurant of the Year, Best Buffet and Best Street Food.Golden Park in Bromborough, Wirral, was the only Merseyside restaurant to win an award on the night. Located on New Chester Road, it was awarded one of the top accolades - Best Chinese.
On the night, organiser of the awards and chairman of the Asian Catering Federation , Yawar Khan, spoke of the industry’s need to: “Adapt and embrace change, or risk becoming just become another statistic, amid widespread restaurant closures, against ever-rising rising costs, with no Government plan to help alleviate the pain being felt through the hospitality sector.”
This year’s Asian Restaurant Awards winners will be included in the ACF’s new ‘One Hundred Top Curry Restaurants’ guide, which is currently being published and can be viewed here.
