In leaked a memo to staff, Elon Musk slightly softens his stance on remote work at Twitter, but still urges in-person work by praising the movie 'Being There'
The tech billionaire told employees that he spent another late night at the company's HQ in San Francisco and thanked employees who toiled alongside him, and those who worked remotely and stayed up even longer in some cases.
Musk stressed that employees feel more part of initiatives when working in person together, and are more effective that way. To support his case, he even cited"," a 1979 movie about a gardener who is forced to leave his home, wanders the streets and meets a business mogul who ushers the main character into high society.
However, Musk also said that working remotely"is fine" if staff can't make it into the office and are performing exceptionally well. I was at Twitter HQ again late into the night yesterday and would like etc extend a note of appreciation to those who were there with me, as well as those working remotely, some of whom had been up even longer.
To reaffirm, working remotely is fine if if you cannot reasonably make it to the office and you are performing at an exceptional level. That said, I am a firm believer in the spirit de corps and effectiveness of being physically in the same location. I will be in the office again today. Stop by the 10th floor if you'd like to talk about taking Twitter to the next level. The priority is near-term actions. Are you a Twitter employee or someone else with insight to share?
