A former Vogue editor and Theory editorial director on her newest venture: Your new favorite jumpsuit label.
Photo: Marc Webbbegan impacting the United States. She shelved plans to launch in early March; “it just feels wrong to be celebrating something new,” Herman toldat the time. But two weeks of self-isolation with her filmmaker husband, their baby, and 300 jumpsuits in their Los Angeles home made her reconsider.
Herman grew up selling jeans in her family’s Ron Herman stores, and as befits someone born into the fashion business, she has an innate sense of style. In her 20s she graduated to magazine jobs at, cofounding a website devoted to denim called Jean Stories along the way. Most recently, she was the editorial director at. Herman has seen all sides of the industry, but The Only Jane marks her first time designing.
Eventually, Herman says, The Only Jane will grow to include jackets, pants, and T-shirts, all of them made in the best factories in her native L.A. with the same care and attention to detail as Jump One, but new jumpsuit silhouettes will come first. “I’d rather not call this a launch,” she says. “‘Launch’ feels big and celebratory, and my intentions are different. I’ve decided to do it now because I feel a need to help somehow.
