Several villains could be primed to replace the Infinity Saga's Thanos in Phase 6's Avengers films, and all could be more powerful than the Mad Titan.

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Marvel Studios has set up several possible villains that would be perfect to replace Thanos in Phase 6 of the MCU. Josh Brolin's Thanos was teased for several years as the main villain of the MCU's Infinity Saga, making his debut in The Avengers' post-credits scene but finally embarking on his Infinity Stone quest in 2018's Avengers: Infinity War.

With Thanos no longer existing in the MCU, the opportunity arose for several other villains to stake their claim on the franchise, yet not all of them have the power or influence to become Thanos' true successor. The MCU's Phase 4 introduced strong villains such as Xu Wenwu, Gorr the God Butcher, and Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine; these foes have already been defeated or have futures in smaller-scale stories such as Thunderbolts.

MCU Phase 6's Set Up Creates 8 Thanos Successors Jonathan Majors' Kang the Conqueror and the Council of Kangs have clearly been set up as the next overarching villain for the MCU's Multiverse Saga, yet Kang's fate is uncertain after his appearance in the eponymous Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. It's possible Kang and his variants could be defeated in The Kang Dynasty, leaving the door open for new villains in Avengers: Secret Wars and the rest of Phase 6.

Chukwudi Iwuji's High Evolutionary was confirmed to have survived Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, meaning he could return to wreak havoc on the species of the cosmos again. What If...?'s Strange Supreme could even make the move from animation as one of the most powerful Doctor Strange variants. Recently, rumors have suggested that Mephisto may be debuting in the MCU in Ironheart or Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, and his power could certainly see him become a major threat.

What MCU's Thanos Successors Mean For The Franchise's Future These eight potential villains for the MCU's Phase 6 are all incredibly powerful, but they also all inhabit very different corners of the MCU. It's a testament to the franchise that it has been able to develop so many separate stories in one shared universe, though this has sometimes been a point of criticism.
