A previous version of this Associated Press report indicated Mitch McConnell told National Public Radio on Friday that the Senate would have no choice but to hold a trial if the House were to impeach Donald Trump. McConnell’s comment was from an interview conducted months earlier. The story has been corrected.

The Kentucky Republican told NPR in an interview several months ago that “if the House were to act, the Senate immediately goes into a trial.”
