Congress passed a $2 trillion stimulus bill last month but some lawmakers say another aid bill is needed.
Congress will need to “spend what it takes” to stave off a deep recession, but added that lawmakers should still be mindful of the debt.
“On the other hand, I think we are sensitive to the economic impacts of putting on debt, and that’s something that the president is reviewing with us very carefully,” he added. Democrats are particularly keen on providing federal aid to states and local governments hamstrung by the skyrocketing costs of combating the epidemic and falling tax revenue in a next bill.
