Belfast Celtic have been thrown out of the Steel and Sons Cup after fielding Rory Patterson in Saturday's third round win over St James' Swifts
Belfast Celtic manager Stephen McAlorum has described the rule which saw his side thrown out of the Steel and Sons Cup as 'shambolic'.
Unbeknown to McAlorum or any official at Belfast Celtic, the Steel and Sons - which comes under the jurisdiction of the County Antrim and District Football Association - remains the only intermediate competition where internationals are not allowed to participate. "I don't think the competition has moved with the times. I think in other competitions, a former international can play as long as he hasn't featured at that level for two or three years.
"They actually came to us and said they didn't want to go through. They believe the rules need to change too."
