Sylvester Turner collects on Astros-Phillies World Series bet with Philadelphia mayor Jim Kenney
Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney makes good on the Astros-Phillies World Series wager he made with Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner at the United States Conference of Mayors on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2023 in Washington, D.C.Thursday when he collected his winnings from the wager he made with Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenndy before the series against the Phillies.
Kenney handed Turner a couple four-packs of beer from Philadelphia's Triple Bottom Brewing when they met up at the United States Conference of Mayors in Washington, D.C., as well as making a $500 donation to . Triple Bottom Brewing appealed to both mayors because it's a woman-owned company powered by renewable energy and believes in hiring employees who need second-chance employment. For the record, the beers were a Czech Amber lager and a Smoked Helles lager. If the Astros lost, Turner would send Kenney chicken and waffles from The Breakfast Klub, Dome Faux'm beer from 8th Wonder Brewery and a donation to Philadelphia's Mighty Writers program.
Turner didn't have to bring any of that to the mayors' conference since the Astros took care of the Phillies in six games in November. "The City of Houston and baseball fans will never get tired of celebrating the Houston Astros and the 2022 World Series championship," said Turner, who was wearing a World Series pin on the lapel of his suit Thursday."I am grateful to Mayor Kenney for following through on our friendly wager and especially for donating to a Houston-based organization with a mission to end childhood hunger.
