Netflix has released the full-length trailer for Roald Dahl's Matilda the Musical. The upcoming musical fantasy movie, which dramatist Matthew Warchus has helmed off a script by Dennis Kelly, is based on Dahl's 1988 children's novel of the same name as well as its 2010 musical adaptation. This is the second movie based on the source material after the cult-classic 1996 Matilda film by Danny DeVito, which starred Mara Wilson in the lead role.

The decision to not deviate from the original story was a bold one for Netflix's new Matilda movie. While a loyal, honest adaptation will surely appease long-time fans and avid readers, the plot's predictability might put others off from streaming the movie. However, one thing that does work in the movie's favor is that some of its elements have been updated, with the cast now being more diverse and the characters having more depth.
