In a statement, United said: “Manchester United notes the decision of the Crown Prosecution Service that all charges against Mason Greenwood have been dropped. The club will now conduct its own process before determining next steps. We will not make any further comment until that process is complete.”Greenwood was arrested in January 2022 and was later charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Those charges were dropped on Thursday after the Crown Prosecution Service confirmed key witnesses had withdrawn from the investigation, and new material had come to light. The striker, who has played in one match for England, had denied the charges and was preparing to go on trial before the decision announced today.
