Sarah Turner covered her face with a scarf and threatened the woman with a screwdriver
A masked armed Nottingham woman befriended and then robbed her stage-four cancer-suffering neighbour on the 71-year-old victim’s own doorstep. Nottingham Crown Court heard how when she forced her way into her Clifton home and demanded cash.
Jailing her for three years and seven months, Judge Stuart Rafferty KC said: “Your victim was 71 years of age, she thought you were her friend. She had shown you kindness previously and you decided that you would rob her in her own home during the early hours of the morning.“She was alone and you knew she was suffering from cancer but you did not care about any of those things at all because your desire to get drugs overwhelmed everything else.
“She raised a screwdriver and threatened her with it and was petrified and went into the living room and got £30 for her purse and gave it to the defendant who had her hood up and half of her face covered with a scarf.” The prosecutor read out two victim impact statements made by the cancer sufferer. In them she told how she used to leave her door unlocked such was the trust she had in her neighbours, but now she has had to have CCTV and stronger door locks fitted.
