MARTIN Lewis warned two MILLION drivers to check a code on the licence today - or risk an eye-watering £1,000 fine.While most motorists will not need to renew their UK driving licence until they hit 70 - there is a vital thing they DO need to update more frequently.
It comes as a whopping two million Brits have failed to do so and risk being slapped with a potentially crippling £1,000 penalty.Martin Lewis issues warning for those on minimum wage who could be owed £100s"If you get caught driving on an expired licence, you could be hit by a small fine or a maximum fine of £1,000 quid."website: "You must renew a photocard licence every 10 years - you’ll receive a reminder before your current licence ends.
The renewal will cost £14 to apply online or £17 by post - unless you're over 70 and receive it for free. However it is significantly more expensive to do so at the post office where drivers will have to fork out £21.50.If you are going down the posting route, then you'll need to pick up a D1 pack from most Post Offices.Drivers will be charged an extra £4.50 to apply through the Post Office to cover the cost of taking an updated photograph in branch plus postage.
