He appeared briefly by video before a federal magistrate judge in Pittsburgh Friday afternoon, but he will be prosecuted in the District of Columbia with all of the other accused rioters. Through interviews with witnesses, FBI Pittsburgh identified the man as Bonenberger and contacted him, but he twice refused to be interviewed.
On Jan. 29, Pittsburgh FBI agents called Bonenberger to set up an interview. He agreed. When agents went to his house on Feb. 3, he invited them in but then declined to talk to them. The agents tried again in July but he declined again, according to the complaint.
