The first of three active-duty Marines who stormed the U.S. Capitol together has been sentenced to probation and community service instead of prison time.
A former organizer of the far-right Proud Boys extremist group has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for spearheading the U.S. Capitol attack.
On Jan. 18 of this year, law enforcement officers arrested Coomer at a military office in Oceanside, Calif.; Abate at his home in Fort Meade, Md.; and Hellonen at his residence in Jacksonville, N.C. Enrique Tarrio, the former national leader of the Proud Boys extremist group, was sentenced to 22 years this week for his role in the Jan. 6 attack. Last year, the Latinx Files wrote about the Cuban American.Hellonen received separation paperwork in July, while Coomer awaited a decision last Friday on his possible separation, according to prosecutors. They said Abate was still enlisted in the Marine Corps as of Sept. 1.
