With roots in Broadway theater, the former studio executive has become a top producer with a soft spot for musicals. Marc Platt was recognized as part of 2018's Variety500 presented by VZMediaPlatform
Known as a gentleman in a cutthroat business, Platt is also an ambitious risk-taker. After his gamble on Reese Witherspoon and the big-time payoff of the first “Legally Blonde,” the former TriStar executive went on to amass an enviable catalog that included “La La Land,” “Bridge of Spies” and “Into the Woods” — Oscar nominees, all.
A producer of the Broadway mega-hit “Wicked” and such live TV events as “Grease,” Platt thrives on musicals and is readying several for the screen, including “Wicked” and, later, “Oliver!” and “Little Shop of Horrors.” He’s reuniting with his Oscar-winning “La La Land” composers for an animated musical, currently titled “Foster.” And then there’s the long-awaited “Legally Blonde 3,” for which Platt Productions is joining with Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine.
