The redacted document will be released by noon Friday.
August 25, 2022 at 3:55 pm EDTJanuary 2022: The National Archives had asked Trump for some of the materials it believed had been taken from the White House and stored at Mar-a-LagoAugust 25, 2022 at 3:55 pm EDT
A judge on Thursday ordered the release of a redacted version of the affidavit used to obtain a warrant to search former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate earlier this month, court records show.In an order filed in court, Magistrate Judge Bruce Reinhart said the redacted affidavit must be filed on the public docket on or before noon Friday.
Reinhart said that the government showed that it had good reason to seal parts of the affidavit to protect “the identities of witnesses, law enforcement agents, and uncharged parties” and details of “the investigation’s strategy, direction, scope, sources, and methods.
Earlier, the government opposed efforts to unseal a redacted version of the affidavit. In court records, officials said the redactions needed “would be so extensive as to render the remaining unsealed text devoid of meaningful content, and the release of such a redacted version would not serve any public interest.”
