Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) has held on to his West Virginia seat for three terms, as the state has shifted increasingly red amid the state's rapid shift toward the Republican Party.
However, Manchin may not be an easy incumbent to take down in next year's Senate election, should he decide to run for a fourth term.Mark Blankenship, a GOP pollster in the Mountain State, cautioned against counting Manchin out of the 2024 Senate race while speaking to Politico.
Manchin's Republican challengers, should he decide to hop into the race, are Rep. Alex Mooney and popular Gov. Jim Justice . Justice appears to have the upper hand in securing the GOP nomination for Senate, having won overwhelmingly statewide in his most recent gubernatorial elections. The war chest Manchin has assembled is the largest, according to the latest FEC filings, among the three incumbents up for reelection in heavily Republican states. Sen. Jon Tester , who announced in February that he would seek another term, reported more than $7 million on hand, while Sen. Sherrod Brown , who announced a reelection bid last year, reported roughly $5.8 million on hand.
