Behind the numbers of Manchester's proposed £300million 71-storey tower with a top-floor restaurant and three penthouses... but no affordable homes
Even in the billion-pound-world of property development, it was always going to require a major player to come along and knock the current top dog off its perch — Deansgate Square’s South Tower.
On floor 70, the final level which can be accessed by the public, an 8,200 sq ft restaurant is planned. It will offer ‘360 degree views of Manchester’ by running alongside ‘ the full perimeter of the building’. In all, there will be 37 three-bedroom flats, which represents six percent of the total 642 proposed homes. The vast majority — 62.5 percent or 402 — are two-beds, with 187 one-beds accounting for 29 percent of the flats, and 16 studio flats rounding off the final two-and-a-half percent.
If it wasn’t already clear, the numbers involved in Plot D are staggering. But if that isn’t convincing enough, the amount of money involved is also eye-watering. Renaker has already contributed a huge amount of money in the area around Plot D, called Great Jackson Street. In September next year, a new primary school will open for 210 children, which has been funded by the construction giant.
