An injured manatee that was rescued near St. Augustine is now recovering at the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens' Manatee Critical Care Center.
The manatee was still on the move, but crews were able to capture it Monday and pull it onto a boat from Robinson Creek, which connects to the Tolomato River, near the north side of St. Augustine, she said. Ron Relyea has lived in the area for a couple of years and took photos of the rescue. The Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens' Manatee Critical Care Center helps rescue and rehabilitate injured manatees.
The zoo has placed her in shallow water to make it easier for her to surface by using her flippers to push off the floor, he said.
