Man claimed he shut door on fatal shooting victim because he thought 'he was going to attack' him, trial hears
A man claimed he shut the door of a van where a 31-year-old dad had been shot because he ‘thought he was going to attack him’, a trial has heard.
Giving evidence from the witness box, Mr Halpin told the court on that on June 13 his partner was at work when he woke up in the morning. He helped his mum’s friend break up a sofa and take it to the tip, before arranging to meet some friends, he said. He said another friend said something along the lines of “Let’s go and batter him”. “He meant to give him a hiding, a rough up,” Mr Halpin said.
When asked what he thought would happen, he said: “Just batter him, give him a few punches, nothing major.” Mr Halpin said he put a balaclava over his face, which he was given by the other man, as he didn’t want Mr Graham’s associate to know he was involved in ‘beating him up and taxing him’. He said they were ‘not the sort of people you want to mess with’.
