The homicide is Bessemer’s eighth this year.
Bessemer police Lt. Christian Clemons said the victim and his 8-year-old daughter were in the stopped vehicle when someone opened fire on him. The victim was shot multiple times and pronounced dead on the scene.The suspect or suspects fled after the deadly shooting. No arrests have been made.
Clemons said the victim, who was not from Jefferson County, had gone to Bessemer to sell or trade an item brokered through Facebook Marketplace. In all of Jefferson County, there have been 101, including the eight in Bessemer. Anyone with information is asked to police at 205-481-4366, 205-425-2411 or the anonymous tip line at 205-428-3541.
