A police officer also fired his gun during the confrontation in Cherry Hill.
Joseph Bestick Jr., 63, died at the scene of the Oct. 11, 2022 incident.
The attorney general’s office, which investigates fatal encounters with law enforcement in New Jersey, said Cherry Hill police went to a home in the 3000 block of Chapel Avenue at about 2 p.m. that day to check on the wellness of a person. They did not say who made the request. When officers entered the home, they saw a man, later identified as Bestick, who reached for gun and shot himself.The office did not publicize any other details of the incident, or say if they’ve determined what gunfire killed Bestick., with several other officers, in February of this year.
