A man was shot dead in the street in a brutal attack in Northern Ireland.
The man, said to be in his 50s, was killed in the Ardcarn Park area of Newry on Thursday evening.Ardcarn Park is currently closed to motorists and pedestrians.
SDLP councillor for the area Michael Savage condemned what he called ‘a reckless act that resulted in the death of a person’.PSNI officers cordoned off an area ‘This was a horrendous act on the streets of our city,’ Mr Savage, who is chairman of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, said.‘My thoughts are with the family of the deceased man and I wish to offer them my condolences. My thoughts are also with the people of Ardcarn.
‘Nobody wants to see scenes like this in our community, there can be no place for guns on our streets and I would encourage anyone with any information to come forward to police as soon as possible so the people behind this disgraceful attack can be apprehended and this dangerous weapon can be removed from circulation before anyone else is hurt.’

Those who have carried out this murder represent no-one and the people of Newry don’t want them. They have spread across the city with this act and they need to be taken off the streets.
‘If anyone has any information on this tragic incident, I ask them to take it to police immediately.’
