A man was shot by authorities in Paradise, Utah, early Tuesday after he allegedly broke into a home armed with a rifle, according to the Cache County Sheriff’s office.
The man demanded the keys to a car from the homeowners and left the residence in a stolen vehicle, a news release from the agency states. Sheriff’s deputies later located the man in the car after the homeowners reported the robbery.
The deputies attempted a traffic stop but the man drove off, initiating a high-speed pursuit from Wellsville through Nibley, authorities said. The pursuit ended in Paradise when the man was shot. He was taken to Logan Regional Hospital, the release states, and his condition was unknown as of Tuesday afternoon.
It’s unclear what exactly led up to the moment the man was shot, including whether he fired any rounds at deputies. Information on the man’s identity was not immediately released. The Northern Utah Critical incident team is investigating the shooting, which marks the fifth police shooting in Utah so far this year, according to a database maintained by The Salt Lake Tribune.
