One man is dead following a shooting with San Antonio police officers on the city’s West Side, according to Chief William McManus.
McManus said the incident started around 9 a.m. Sunday, when officers received a call from the suspect’s family stating he has 11 outstanding warrants, including four felony warrants and seven misdemeanor warrants.
Based on the description given by the family, patrol officers identified a man riding a bike as a possible suspect, said McManus. According to the preliminary report, when officers attempted to stop the man he began fighting officers. McManus said during the struggle, the suspect pushed away from officers stating, “I have a gun. I’m going to shoot,” and reached for his waistband. SAPD has reviewed body camera footage and stated that preliminary reports do align with the footage, said McManus.According to SAPD, the man had identification for multiple people with him, and they are working to positively identify him.McManus says the shooting is still under investigation.Victoria Lopez is a Digital Journalist at KSAT.
