Missouri City police shot and killed a man early Wednesday after an hourslong standoff outside a home in the upscale Quail Valley neighborhood, according to the police department.
Officers around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday responded to the 3800 block of Pecan Valley Drive after someone called to report a man had a handgun and was yelling in the front yard of a home, Lt. Jeffrey York, of the Missouri City Police Department, said.Investigators said the man wasn’t from Missouri City, but might have had a previous relationship with the homeowner, York said.
The man told first responders he wanted to be hurt, and officers called crisis negotiators and a SWAT team, who spent the next six hours talking with him, York said. Police tried to subdue him using nonlethal force, but around 4:45 a.m. he began firing at officers.Detectives were working Wednesday to determine what he was doing in the front yard, York said.
Investigators with the Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office and the Texas Rangers were looking into the shooting, York said.
