A man shot dead four people and wounded nine others in an attack at a bank in downtown Louisville, Kentucky, according to the city’s police department
The shooter was a current or former employee of the bank, Paul Humphrey, a Louisville Metro Police Department deputy chief, told reporters.
The man was armed with an "AR-15-style" semiautomatic rifle, CNN reported, citing an unnamed federal law enforcement official. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, on the verge of tears, said during the briefing that he knew some of the victims. Mass shootings have become recurrent in the United States. So far this year, the nation has experienced 146 mass shootings — using the definition of four or more shot or killed, not including the shooter — according to the Gun Violence Archive, a nonprofit group.
