Phoenix police said officers handcuffed the man who was' acting erratic and breaking windows.' He became unresponsive on the way to a hospital.
At about 6 p.m., police officers responded to a report of criminal damage incident near 1400 North 44"The caller stated a man was acting erratic and breaking windows," said Sgt. Brian Bower, a spokesperson for Phoenix Police Department.
When officers arrived, they saw a man who matched the description of the suspect, police said. Officers detained the man by placing him in handcuffs. Because of his continued erratic behavior, leg restraints were also used, police said. The man was then taken to the hospital by Phoenix Fire Department. On the way to the hospital, the man became unresponsive and paramedics had to administer lifesaving measures. The same measures were continued at the hospital, but the man did not survive, police said. The man was 40 years old.
"The cause and manner of death will be determined by the Office of the Medical Examiners," Bower said.An administrative and criminal investigation will be conducted, police said.
