A Solano County Superior Court judge on Thursday sentenced a 41-year-old Elk Grove man to 11 years in state prison for a 2017 robbery in Suisun City in what police say was a botched marijuana deal that ended with the shooting death of a 21-year-old man by a Fairfield man.
Just before Kauffman handed down the sentence, which includes more than five years custody credit for Broussard, Harper-Reed’s mother, Sharlean Reed, submitted a victim-impact statement. Another statement read by Nguyen, who led the prosecution during the trial, indicated Harper-Reed’s death meant “he had no chance to be a husband, father grandfather.”
In her remarks to Kauffman before the sentencing, Nguyen urged the judge to sentence him to five years, citing Broussard’s “extensive criminal history,” a juvenile conviction, and his tendency to “continue to offend.”She noted a 2008 robbery for which Broussard was convicted in 2010 in which he told the victim “Do you know what time it is?” the same thing he was reported to have said just before Dogan shot and killed Harper-Reed.Broussard’s defense attorney, Eileen C.
As previously reported, on Feb. 15, after a two-month trial, Broussard and Dogan were found guilty. The jury also found that Dogan used a gun during the commission of the crimes.
