A man fatally shot Dec. 24 next to Oakland’s Lake Merritt has been identified by police.
OAKLAND — A 38-year-old man fatally shot the night of Dec. 24 on a violence plagued cul-de-sac next to Lake Merritt was identified by police Tuesday as Ricky Ricardo Bustos of Oakland.
Bustos was shot about 8:19 p.m. Dec. 24 in the 1400 block of Lakeshore Avenue, part of the street where a woman was shot to death last month and seven other people have been wounded by gunfire since May. . Police said Bustos, who lived in East Oakland, was hanging out there when he got into a confrontation with another person and was shot.Police have not said what the confrontation was about and have not made any arrests.
Authorities do not believe at this time that the killing is related to any of the previous violence on the cul-de-sac, which has a church and numerous apartments on its east side, opposite the lake. Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the shooter.
