He was driving in 'treacherous conditions'
A man has been jailed for dangerous driving after climbing over fences and hedges to try and avoid police. Alex Swain, 23, of Chesterfield Road North in Pleasley, was driving a stolen car when he was spotted by officers.
He was driving the vehicle on Beacon Drive in Kirkby on March 11 when he sped away from officers. The car was eventually abandoned and Swain ran through neighbouring gardens to try and get away. Swain was later tracked down to a nearby address and arrested. Appearing at Nottingham Crown Court on June 28, Swain was jailed for 12 months after pleading guilty to dangerous driving, driving without insurance and driving whilst disqualified.
He was also disqualified from driving for two years, with the sentence covering another offence committed by Swain when he threatened to destroy a man's car on April 25. Detective Constable Colin Jones, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "Swain has consistently shown a blatant disregard for other people and their property.
"When spotted by us driving in treacherous conditions, he made a conscious choice to speed away through a residential area. These roads had not been gritted and he could very easily have caused a very serious collision."
